7. For all members to follow the ethics of the club.
The Societies Code of Ethics
1. Members must consider the welfare of their hounds as of paramount importance, ensuring their hounds are correctly housed, fed, watered, exercised, given the appropriate veterinary care and maintained to a high standard, above any personal gain and/or profit.
2. All breeding of the B.M.H will be aimed at IMPROVEMENT OF THE BREED, with equal consideration given to type, temperament, health and tracking ability. Members will discourage the breeding of non K.C registered hounds and obvious inferior hounds.
3. Members putting dog hounds to stud will ensure, as far as is reasonable, that their hound is free from hereditary defects and that their hound is of a good example of the breed. The hound is only to be offered for stud to other K.C registered bitches. It is strongly recommended all dogs and bitches are hip scored.
4. Bitches are not to be bred from until they are both physically and mentally mature, usually two years old at the very earliest (preferably three) and not to be bred from too regularly to the detriment of the bitch. Kennel Club guidelines should be followed i.e. Accredited Breeders Scheme.
5. No member shall breed from their bitch unless they can ensure they have the proper facilities and the time to ensure proper care of the dam and her progeny. They should also be prepared to take back and help re-home any older hounds they have bred; the society will help in these cases if necessary.
6. Members shall ensure that any prospective owner receives a guide as to the temperament of the breed, its natural vocational qualities and general husbandry needed. Prospective B.M.H owners should be screened to ensure they are capable and prepared for a B.M.H.
7. At the time of sale members will provide a four generation pedigree, signed by the owner of the dam. A diet sheet and information on worming and any inoculations with a receipt for their purchase. The Kennel Club Registration Certificate should also be given or a receipt noting that a Kennel Club registration certificate is to follow, when received by the breeder. Breeders are advised to micro chip all litters before they are re-homed. All relevant paperwork to be supplied at time of sale.
8. Where a B.M.H puppy or mature hound deviates seriously from the standard or has an obvious defect, any prospective buyer should be made aware of the fact. The Kennel Club registration should be amended to disallow the said hound to be bred from and the hound should be neutered at a suitable age.
9. No B.M.H should be sold/given to a pet shop or dealer. If exporting a B.M.H, extreme care should be taken to ensure that the hound is going directly to its new home.
10. All members should conduct themselves in a good manner as to reflect credit to the B.M.H and the society and show good sportsmanship.
11. All members when tracking a wounded beast, will ensure the humane dispatch of the beast at the earliest appropriate moment, so as to prevent any undue stress and suffering to either beast or hound. |
