Objectives of the society. Society Objectives PDF
1. To promote the well being & understanding of the Bavarian Mountain Hound (BMH).
2. To promote its role as a tracking hound for following up wounded and injured deer.
3. To maintain the breed in accordance with the Kennel Club standard.
4. To provide Seminars & Classes on:
a. Breed standard, to promote the full understanding of the standard as to prevent any misinterpretation of the said standard.
b. Tracking Tests, the correct handling, training (of hound & of leader) & equipment used in tracking wounded game. c. Breeding, to promote responsible breeding. Hereditary defects that the breed faces.
For all the above the club will hope to have experienced B.M.H owners/handlers from Europe to assist the society with its goals.
5. To hold shows in accordance with Kennel Club regulations.
6. To get Schweisshund Tracking Tests recognised by the Kennel Club.
7. For all members to follow the Ethics of the Society.

GENERAL CODE OF ETHICS
All members of the Bavarian Mountain Hound Society of Great Britain undertake to abide by its general Code of Ethics.
Club members:
- Will properly house, feed, water and exercise all hounds under their care and arrange for appropriate veterinary attention if and when required.
- Will agree without reservation that any veterinary surgeon performing an operation on any of their hounds which alters the natural conformation of the animal, may report such operation to the Kennel Club.
- Will agree that no healthy puppy will be culled. Puppies which may not conform to the Breed Standard should be placed in suitable homes.
- Will abide by all aspects of the Animal Welfare Act.
- Will not create demand for, nor supply, puppies that have been docked illegally.
- Will agree not to breed from a hound which could be in any way harmful to the hound or to the breed.
- Will not allow any of their hounds to roam at large or to cause a nuisance to neighbours or those carrying out official duties.
- Will ensure that their hounds wear properly tagged collars and will be kept leashed or under effective control when away from home.
- Will clean up after their hounds in public places or anywhere their hounds are being exhibited.
- Will only sell hounds where there is a reasonable expectation of a happy and healthy life, and will help with the re-homing of a hound if the initial circumstances change.
- Will supply written details of all dietary requirements, and give guidance concerning responsible ownership, when placing hounds in a new home.
- Will ensure that all relevant Kennel Club documents are provided to the new owner when selling or transferring a hound, and will agree, in writing, to forward any relevant documents at the earliest opportunity, if not immediately available.
- Will not sell any hound to a commercial dog wholesaler, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly allow hounds to be given as a prize or donation in a competition of any kind.
- Will not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise hounds, nor mislead any person regarding the health or quality of a hound.
- Not to breed from any Bavarian Mountain Hound until it is at least thirty months of age on the day of mating.
- Have the said Bavarian Mountain Hounds hip tested under the KC/BVA hip testing scheme, and must obtain a suitable score according to the scheme.
- Not to breed from any Bavarian Mountain Hound until it has at the least passed the Society’s Aptitude Test, or an equivalent if taken abroad. (This provision is to come fully into force on the 1st January 2011).
Breach of these provisions may result in expulsion from club membership, and/or disciplinary action by the Kennel Club and/or reporting to the relevant authorities for legal action, as appropriate.
